2002 HdV Syrah (Hyde Vineyard)
This wine takes you right into an oriental market with hundreds of exotic aromas. Coriander, violet, rose blossom, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, leather and fine tobacco blend together. This is a powerful wine, generous but also agile and elegant, thanks to its finely matured and delicate tannins. The nose is a blend of red and black fruits, spice and violet aromas.

"The was by the most interesting and complex of the three Syrah in the tasting revealing Rhone like aromas and flavors of black fruit, olive, tobacco, pepper, and notes of leather and mushroom. It has a lush texture with ripe tannins. A beautifully crafted wine that demonstrates the potential for Syrah in Carneros. "

"A dense, rich yet elegantly styled wine with layers of tobacco leaf, beef carpaccio, white pepper, wild berry, raspberry and plum, holding a sharp focus and finishing with a long, persistent finish that gains complexity and nuance, and has just the right mix of tannins and acidity. Drink now through 2010."

"Here is a deep and big-bodied look at Syrah that offers up lots of well-defined fruit and is sweetened with wonderful oak. It is concentrated and firmly balanced with finely fit tannins for grip and at all points conveys a very real sense of potency. It is an eminently agewirthy effort, and we would not be surprised in the least if it gains in complexity for 7-10 years."
